Ghost Forest – Introduction

Welcome to the “Ghost Forest”! As you will soon discover, it is full of many and many interesting things, so please take your time and have a good look at it. Who knows, you could be finding things that you might wish to take with you ...

But, first of all: What is all this about?

To put it simply, “Ghost Forest” is a story for children. It was written by Zlatko Enev, a Bulgarian-born writer living in Berlin, Germany, and tells about the adventures of a small girl who gets into an enchanted game world. As she proceeds through the Ghost Forest she is forced to solve a lot of very difficult problems – and learn a few things about herself in the process ...
(If you want to skip over the rest of the explanations on this page and learn right away a bit more about the story, please proceed to the Summary page).

At the same time it is a rather interesting project which went through several different phases before finally becoming a book. Most of them remained unfinished but their results are nevertheless worth having a look at. We present them here not just because they show a kind of „history“ of the project but simply and most of all … because they are very beautiful. We suggest you just go and see for yourself. The pictures don't need any further advertisement, we believe.

So which were those “phases”? What did we do before the book appeared?

bullet Everything started with the idea of a Computer Game. This was somewhere at the beginning of 2000 and most of the graphics on this site (scenes and characters) appeared in the next year and a half. It took us about that much time to realize that this project goes by far beyond our financial limits. It was then (or approximately, since some of the “phases” ran concurrently) that the project went to what here is being called “the second phase”. And it was:

bullet The Comics Books Series which was supposed to tell the story in pictures. This phase lasted for about four months (although the actual production of the pictures took nearly a year). Pretty soon it became clear that the means of the comics genre cannot present the story the way the author saw it, so here we came to the final “phase”:

bullet The Book (which is its main and final part). Quite unexpectedly, from this moment on all difficulties disappeared, as if real magic was taking place. The book was written in less than four months and appeared in Bulgaria in the record time of two months (thank to the very professional work of the people from the PAN Publishing House). The different language versions we work on give us good hope it will soon appear in other countries too.

And now, we wish you a lot of fun while being here in the Ghost Forest. Please, don’t forget: there are many interesting things around. This place is really worth having a good look at. Don’t be shy, you are welcome!
